Publisher Book Description

Now, before I share my book review of The Bodyguard with you, please let me provide you with the publisher’s book description of The Bodyguard. As you may know, the publisher’s book description is the first thing most of us read when we are deciding whether or not to purchase a book to read. So here is The Publisher Book Description:,

New York Times bestselling author Katherine Center's The Bodyguard is unabashedly romantic, laugh-out-loud funny, and the perfect summer read.

She’s got his back.

Hannah Brooks looks more like a kindergarten teacher than somebody who could kill you with a wine bottle opener. Or a ballpoint pen. Or a dinner napkin. But the truth is, she’s an Executive Protection Agent (aka "bodyguard"), and she just got hired to protect superstar actor Jack Stapleton from his middle-aged, corgi-breeding stalker.

He’s got her heart.

Jack Stapleton’s a household name—captured by paparazzi on beaches the world over, famous for, among other things, rising out of the waves in all manner of clingy board shorts and glistening like a Roman deity. But a few years back, in the wake of a family tragedy, he dropped from the public eye and went off the grid.

When Jack’s mom gets sick, he comes home to the family’s Texas ranch to help out. Only one catch: He doesn’t want his family to know about his stalker. Or the bodyguard thing. And so Hannah—against her will and her better judgment—finds herself pretending to be Jack’s girlfriend as a cover. Even though her ex, like a jerk, says no one will believe it.

Hannah hardly believes it, herself. And the more time she spends with Jack, the more real it all starts to seem. And there lies the heartbreak. Because it’s easy for Hannah to protect Jack. But protecting her own, long-neglected heart? That’s the hardest thing she’s ever done.

That concludes the Publisher Book Description of The Bodyguard.

About the Author:

This seems like the perfect moment to tell you all about the author:  Katherine Center.

Katherine Center is the reigning queen of women’s feel good fiction. Katherine knows how to enchant her readers. How does she do this? Well, I think she comes by it naturally. But then again, it is good to bestow upon Katherine all the high praise she so thoroughly deserves. Why? Because Katherine knows exactly how to implement her unique talent to keep her readers engaged and begging for more. If you are a loyal Katherine Center fan, then you know I exactly what I mean. One of the things I love most about Katherine Center is that her novels are oozing with plenty of good ole Texas warmth and charm.

Book Review

Now, here is my book review of The Bodyguard: I was so looking forward to reading the advanced review copy of Katherine Center’s latest novel, The Bodyguard. Suffice it to say, I was surprised, but  definitely not disappointed. The Bodyguard feels different from most of Center’s previous novels, and yet, I’m not sure I can accurately elaborate in what way. It kind of reminds me of that old movie It Happened One Night. It starred Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. At times it was sweet, sometimes screwball and zany. And The Bodyguard is kind of like that. It’s just lots of fun! The Bodyguard drew me in and held my interest from beginning to end.

Jack, a handsome and hunky movie star is being stalked by an over-zealous fan. Enter Hannah Brooks, a lady bodyguard. The head of a protection agency assigns Hannah to protect Jack from the stalker. Jack is amused to meet his bodyguard,   as Hannah could be described as a rather pint-sized woman. And that amusing fact makes you think of a pixie and the hulk.

Jack wonders how on earth such a tiny little bodyguard could possibly protect him. So if we put things in perspective, maybe it is not so surprising that Jack wonders how on earth such a tiny little bodyguard could possibly protect him. The plain fact is that Jack does not put any faith in Hannah as his protector.

But when Jack decides to stay on his family ranch (due to his mother’s illness)  Hannah finds herself in an unfamiliar work environment. And instead of doing her job, her way, she must adjust to an alternate plan which means not just keeping secrets from the outside world, but to Jack’s parents as well. And that is not something Hannah feels good about.

Jack and Hannah do end up spending some quality time together on the ranch. Now of course we should know it is quite possible for a couple as different as Jack and Hannah to share a romance. But we undoubtedly will also ask ourselves if such a romance could ever lead to anything else…except maybe goodbye when Hannah’s assignment is completed.

I loved the fun and engaging story of Jack and Hanna in the Bodyguard. Katherine Center has her own unique style of immersing readers in her never-fail, enchanting romance stories. And as always, Katherine Center’s characters feel genuine…like folks with whom we can identify.
