01:12

Okay, so today I am going to share with you first, the publisher’s description of The Silent Wife: Atlanta, Georgia. Present day. A young woman is brutally attacked and left for dead. The police investigate but the trail goes cold. Until a chance assignment takes GBI investigator Will Trent to the state penitentiary, and to a prisoner who says he recognizes the MO. The attack looks identical to the one he was accused of eight years earlier. The prisoner always insisted that he was innocent, and now he’s sure he has proof. The killer is still out there!

As Will digs into both crimes, it becomes clear that he must solve the original case in order to reach the truth. Yet nearly a decade has passed! And that means  - time for memories to fade, witnesses to vanish, evidence to disappear. And now he needs medical examiner Sara Linton to help him hunt down a ruthless murderer. But when the past and present collide, everything Will values is at stake....

Hey, okay, let’s get back to our show now.

03:43

Okay, so here we go with my review of The Silent Wife.

03:49

The Silent Wife is my first Karin Slaughter read. Slaughter’s expert handling of the dialogue immediately pulled me into the story. The Silent Wife deals with a violent attack of a young woman as she jogged through the woods. As the investigation gets underway, the investigators believe this attack parallels a crime from some years back.

04:07

I was quickly drawn into the Silent Wife. And even though I have not read the earlier books in this series, I was mesmerized by this crime thriller. I am now a Karin Slaughter fan and can’t wait to read more of her novels.

04:23

The first thing that jumped out at me, in The Silent Wife, was the exceptional handling of the dialogue, which immediately pulled me into the story.  The Silent Wife is a conversational masterpiece. Slaughter expertly wields the dialogue in a swift, yet straight-forward fashion, thereby demanding the reader’s attention and sparking the imagination. Quite honestly, Karin Slaughter had me at: Prologue, with her 10,000 Maniacs quote from the song: Trouble Me.

04:54

Slaughter’s passionate treatment of her characters is nothing short of amazing. As I listened to the audio version of The Silent Wife, which by the way, is quite skillfully narrated by Kathleen Early, I found myself falling deeper and deeper into the story. Young women are being attacked. The current attack is thought to be tied to a similar assault dating back about ten years.

05:19

A young woman is jogging through the woods, she is completely unaware of the brutal attack that is to come. Anyone who has ever taken the time to contemplate a threat of being attacked has most probably taken certain precautions in order to defend one’s self, should the worst fear become real. But can you ever be completely prepared for the multitude of unknowns that may befall you unexpectedly at any given time?

05:48

So now we wonder: Who will be the next young female out for an exhilarating jog through the lovely woods? Will she too be taken completely by surprise? What will she do if she is forced to watch the inhumane attack on her own body. As the young woman is brutally attacked and sexually violated, there is no time to think about mounting a defense.

06:12

There will be no time for the realization that no amount of preparedness would have allowed for any defense whatsoever. For the young woman jogging alone in the woods, no steps taken in advance could have repelled the vicious attack now in progress. And now, there is only terror.

06:34

The Silent Wife is actually Book 10 of The Will Trent Series. And While I have not read the previous books in this series, I was neither hindered, nor deterred, from falling under the spell of Slaughter’s fascinating story-telling expertise. The Silent Wife is filled with flawed characters who struggle through life, continually finding themselves caught up between the past and the present.

06:58

If you are a fan of  murder-mystery-thriller crime fiction, The Silent Wife is a chilling must read.
