I love the Bree Taggert book series because the characters are so real and life-like. Author Melinda Leigh is a master of characterization.

  •  See Her Die is a police procedural murder mystery thriller novel. In this Book 2 of the Bree Taggert Series, Bree is now the Sheriff working as fast as she can to solve a murder case. The murder appears to be born of extreme rage.
  •  Shortly after the first case comes to be, a second case presents itself as a missing person’s case. A grandmother has reported her grandson missing. As in Book 1 of this series, Cross Her Heart, Matt and his loyal tracking canine, Brody, are on-board to assist Bree in her valiant quest to catch an enraged killer before he strikes again.
  •  One of the big reasons I love The Bree Taggert book series is because the characters are so real. I feel like I am reading about people I know. I have to give credit where credit is due, Melinda Leigh is awesome at characterization.
  • After working a long shift, Bree is alerted that there has been an emergency call for help at a nearby campground. A teenage girl, Alyssa, has been squatting in a cabin in a local campground. When Bree arrives on the scene, Alyssa is there, but the woman who was supposedly shot is nowhere to be found. Bree and her crew are in a quandary as there is no blood, no body and no shell casings. Bree determines that this may be a job for Matt and Brody to help with.

  • See Her Die was a completely enjoyable read for me. Honestly, I just couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what happens next. The author does her job so well I could even feel differing measures of sympathy toward some of the characters who may, or may not be the killer or killers.
  •  Aside from the current case Bree and her crew are working, the author takes time to revisit the characters from the first book in this series. Dana is still living at Bree’s home to help with Bree’s niece and nephew. And this time around we learn more about Bree’s brother who was a baby when the family tragedy occurred in the very beginning of Book One, Cross Her Heart.
  •  See Her Die can work as a stand-alone story however, Cross Her Heart was a page-turner for me, and I wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on the beginning of the story in this Bree Taggert Series. Another aspect of See Her Die that I particularly enjoyed was how Bree comported herself as the new Sheriff in a police department of men.
  • See Her Die also deals with not only Brody, Matt’s tracking canine, but also with another dog at the home of one of the families that were questioned regarding the murder case. I totally loved how that situation panned out.  No spoilers, can’t tell you, sorry.
  •  Author, Melinda Leigh is right on the mark with her Bree Taggert book and I hope there will be more books to come in this series.
